Final Dark Season books arriving in a couple of weeks, plus Devil’s Briar!

bytheriverdark111By the River Dark (Dark Season 3.6) is out now at Amazon, which means that there are just two books left before the series ends. There’s going to be a two week break over Christmas, which means that A Woman Waiting (Dark Season 3.7) will be out on Monday December 31st, and then The End (Dark Season 3.8) will arrive on Monday January 7th. After that, as usual, there’ll be an omnibus / box-set edition that collects the whole of the third series together, and then theĀ Dark SeasonĀ story is over forever!

To be honest, it’s hard to believe that the series is going to end. I’ve had the story in my head for ages, but even when I wrote the first book, the idea of managing to get it all done seemed so daunting. Now that The End (Dark Season 3.8) is just around the corner, I’m pretty nervous to find out what people think. I don’t know about you, but I hate it when I read a book or watch a film and the ending is a let-down. The final Dark Season book has a lot of blood and death, and I’m not making any promises about who (if anyone) survives. All I’ll say is that there’s a definite resolution. There’s no cliffhanger ending, and there’s no ambiguity. When the final book is over, you’ll know exactly what happens, why it happens, and whether anyone will be able to live happily ever after.

Meanwhile, Arrival (Devil’s Briar 1.1) is out during the next week. I’ve been working on this new series for ages. Back in the summer, I said it was “coming soon” and it was titled The Stranger Chronicles. Now it’s been renamed Devil’s Briar, and it’s a horror series in the same kind of style as the Asylum series I wrote a few months ago. I’ve always wanted to write a straight-forward ghost story, and that’s what this is going to be. In other news, a certain detective who appeared in a couple of short novellas last year is going to be making a reappearance in a new series, but more about that closer to the time…

Dark Season: plans and schemes

Just a quick post to outline the plans for Dark Season. I’ve already put the first two books out there and now I’ve almost finished the third, which will definitely be out in the next week. So here’s where we stand:

1. Dark Season: The Last Vampire
Was released in November.

2. Dark Season II: Sentinel
Also released in November.

3. Dark Season III: Army of Wolves
ETA: 1st to 3rd of December. A seemingly friendly werewolf arrives in town, and he knows Patrick very well. But he’s not alone…

4. Dark Season IV: The Civil Dead
ETA: 10th December. This one is about ghosts. Something horrible happens to Sophie and opens a door to a new world for her.

5. Dark Season V: The Life, Death, Life, Life and Death of Martin Keller
ETA: Christmas. This book sees Sophie and Patrick meet a man named Martin Keller who has some very dangerous ambitions… and a nasty bite!

6. Dark Season VI: Gothos
ETA: New Year. This book deals with Gothos, the mysterious abandoned mansion that was once home to the ruling vampire elite.

7. Dark Season VII: Testament
ETA: January 2012. I can’t really describe this one without giving something important away. So let’s just say that it shakes things up.

8. Dark Season VIII: Dead End
ETA: January 2012. This is the final volume of the first series of books. Again, it’s hard to describe without revealing a key plot twist from the earlier books. Someone dies. Someone from an earlier book comes back to life. And the cliffhanger ending is, even if I say so myself, rather cool…
