At War With the Hamptons ready to be published!

I’ve been pretty quiet this week, and with good reason: I’ve been working flat-out to get another ebook up and ready to be published. The hard work has paid off, I hope, and At War With the Hamptons should be uploaded to Smashwords and Amazon tomorrow!

It’s a comic family drama about bereavement, and about how some people never really get over the death of a family member. The novel is told from the points of view of three children – Michael, Laney and David Hampton – who struggle throughout their lives with the death of their mother.

The novel is very different to my other books, and it’s a bit of a stretch for me. For one thing, I’m not entirely sure whether the bits I think are funny will seem funny to other people. But sitting and staring at the damn thing won’t resolve those doubts. The only way to find out if the book’s any good is to publish it. Either it’ll sell or it won’t!

Hopefully the cover will help a little. The covers for my other books were done by other people, but this time I’ve done the cover myself. Perhaps it shows? The final cover is above, while the original cover – which I completed last week but decided to scrap – is below. They’re very different, and I hope you’ll agree that the one with the goose’s head is better than the original.

But again, there’s only one way to know for sure, and that’s to publish. This is something I’ve learnt the hard way. You can sit and stare at what you’ve written for as long as you like, but at the end of the day you have to publish and be damned!

Perhaps this is one of the best things about self-publishing ebooks. You can take a risk occasionally!

Another risk I think I’ll take is that I’m going to put up a sample chapter on this blog. Just to let people see what the book is like. Sure, you can get a sample at Amazon or Smashwords, but maybe putting something on here will help as well. As I’ve said before, I’m really new to all of this so it’s worth experimenting!
