By the River Dark (Dark Season 3.6) is out now at Amazon, which means that there are just two books left before the series ends. There’s going to be a two week break over Christmas, which means that A Woman Waiting (Dark Season 3.7) will be out on Monday December 31st, and then The End (Dark Season 3.8) will arrive on Monday January 7th. After that, as usual, there’ll be an omnibus / box-set edition that collects the whole of the third series together, and then the Dark Season story is over forever!
To be honest, it’s hard to believe that the series is going to end. I’ve had the story in my head for ages, but even when I wrote the first book, the idea of managing to get it all done seemed so daunting. Now that The End (Dark Season 3.8) is just around the corner, I’m pretty nervous to find out what people think. I don’t know about you, but I hate it when I read a book or watch a film and the ending is a let-down. The final Dark Season book has a lot of blood and death, and I’m not making any promises about who (if anyone) survives. All I’ll say is that there’s a definite resolution. There’s no cliffhanger ending, and there’s no ambiguity. When the final book is over, you’ll know exactly what happens, why it happens, and whether anyone will be able to live happily ever after.
Meanwhile, Arrival (Devil’s Briar 1.1) is out during the next week. I’ve been working on this new series for ages. Back in the summer, I said it was “coming soon” and it was titled The Stranger Chronicles. Now it’s been renamed Devil’s Briar, and it’s a horror series in the same kind of style as the Asylum series I wrote a few months ago. I’ve always wanted to write a straight-forward ghost story, and that’s what this is going to be. In other news, a certain detective who appeared in a couple of short novellas last year is going to be making a reappearance in a new series, but more about that closer to the time…
